BREAKFAST AT TERTTULIA

I’ve heard a lot of people in the Shivaji Park area thank their stars when Terttulia came to Mumbai around 8 months ago. Restaurant options on that side of town are few, and its slim pickin’s for non-vegetarians.

Terttulia is pretty easy to locate, although it’s tucked away in one of the lanes by the seaside. Literally an Oasis in the Dadar Desert, this place gives you a lovely “home-ly” vibe the minute you see the yellow rooster and bell at the door. I loved this place straight away.

Let’s talk about the interiors for a minute. There is doll house – like furniture on one end and high bar stools on the other… latticed French Windows as you enter and peeled off paint across the room. You can’t miss the mantel piece with a variety of knick knacks! It’s completely fun, cluttered and confused… just like my frame of mind right now.

I was kind of surprised that the bad (and ugly) reviews about the food on Zomato far outweighed the good. Whatever I happened to try had my taste buds doing the Macarena.  It’s no wonder this joint is gaining popularity for its breakfast menu – fluffy omelets, waffles, smoothies, bagels, with sides like bacon, chicken and pork sausages.. a welcome sight on any menu!

The food is rustic, wholesome and comforting, like something Jamie Oliver would prepare. Whether you’re in the mood for Pastas, Pizzas, Hot Dogs or Burgers, they have a fine selection with your choice of sides.

I had a wonderful hands-on cooking demo with Chef Kamal Thapa & Chef Paraag Nayak  and .. *whispers* I learnt some awesome Terttulia cooking secrets…

You’d think that with all these cooking demos, I’d be able to cook by now.. but no.

Breakfast at Terttulia

The Creme Brulee French Toast is made with 6 simple ingredients that you’re sure to have at home. Bread, 400 ml Cream, 2 Eggs, 10 ml Vanilla Essence, a pinch of Cinnamon Powder and 80 gms Brown Sugar.

The secret?

Soaking the bread in the mixture for 4 (yes, FOUR) hours!!

Then bake in an oven at 170c for 15 mins and 180c for 3 mins.

There are not many options for savoury waffles in Mumbai that  I’ve heard of. Terttulia has a choice of two – spinach and cheddar & chopped ham and emmenthal. These are cooked to perfection and served with pepper maple syrup. For those with a sweet tooth, their sweet waffles come with fruit, whipped cream and maple syrup  <3

The Bagels are okay… nothing out of the ordinary. I love chocolate smoothies although the Banana Chocolate smoothie could have been richer and maybe a tad sweeter too. The Papaya Pineapple Smoothie is spot on!

Along with their breakfast menu, they also offer a special beverage menu consisting of various coffee and tea blends like Espresso Macchiato, Espresso Can Panna, Cappuccino, Iced Latte and loose teas like Masala, Green, Flavoured and Jasmine. Terrtulia has a great selection of desserts as well.

There is still so much on the menu that I haven’t tried out. For those looking for a break from the multitude of South Indian breakfast joints, go on and try the English Breakfast at Terttulia. I’d love to know what you think of it.
