Fortune’s Pizzeria and Gelateria, Assagao

Picture this: It’s movie night with your best buddies, or maybe you’re having a fun-filled vacation in sunny Goa and are lounging by the pool. What could possibly make these moments even better? Pizza, of course! Pizza parties, pizza cravings, college hang-outs, and even vacations just aren’t complete without a delicious slice of cheesy goodness. And if you find yourself in or around the charming village of Assagao in Goa, there’s one place that stands out from the rest.

Fortune’s Pizzeria and Gelateria, Assagao

Located conveniently close to Vinayak and the famous Parra Road, Fortune’s Pizzeria and Gelateria welcome patrons with spacious and comfortable interiors. Think rustic vibes and a cozy atmosphere that instantly puts you in the mood for some good food, and really, lets the food shine instead of the ambience! The simplicity of the decor allows the focus to be on the food and the dining experience, creating a casual and inviting atmosphere.

As you drive or walk by, you’ll get a glimpse into the restaurant, tempting you to enter – cool blue and white interiors, the beautiful pizza oven, and the chefs hard at work tossing, baking, and slicing pizza

The secret sauce at Fortune Pizzeria is Chef Roberta, the woman behind the incredible flavors at this establishment. Chef Roberta hails from Naples, the birthplace of pizza. Her passion for serving authentic Italian flavors is truly commendable. With every bite, you can taste the love and dedication that she puts into her dishes. Meeting her is a treat in itself, as she’s always up for a chat between creating those mouthwatering Italian delights and she can teach you a thing or two about pronouncing Italian food names.

Try these wood-fired pizzas in North Goa!

The menu at this eatery is a small one-page flier with a handful of items and options under each. One of the highlights is the wood-fired pizzas, which are made using high-quality ingredients and baked in their technically advanced wood-fired oven. Among their popular options is the Chicken Bolognese pizza, that is topped generously with chicken, bolognese sauce, tomato, cheese and caramelized onions.

I tried the 4-cheese pizza and enjoyed its deliciously cheesy goodness. However, if you’re a blue cheese lover like me, you might miss its presence on the 4-cheese pizza. I was informed that blue cheese, although a personal favorite, is not widely appreciated by patrons and is therefore not used in their pizzas. The pizza prices here range from Rs. 500-750, which is pretty affordable for tourists and locals of all ages.

In addition to their pizzas, Fortune’s Pizzeria and Gelateria also offers a creation not commonly found in Italian restaurants in Goa, called Panuozzo. Similar to a pizza sandwich, this delightful treat features the same pizza dough made into a sandwich filled with various ingredients and brushed with olive oil. The Panuozzo is available for Rs. 500-750, providing a satisfying alternative to traditional pizzas. I like to call it ‘the little brother of the pizza.’

Panuozzo, Calzones, Pasta and More at Fortune’s Pizzeria

For those craving appetizers, the menu includes bruschetta options like chicken ham with tomato and cheese, priced between Rs. 350-450. Additionally, their calzones, topped with tomato sauce, range from Rs. 650-750. While both the Panuozzo and calzones are delicious, I personally preferred the Panuozzo for its unique twist on classic pizza flavors, over the calzone which can get a tad messy to eat due to the sauce on top. Both are delicious though!

Fortune’s Pizzeria and Gelateria also caters to those seeking pasta dishes, with their lasagna being a standout item on the menu. This traditional Italian dish features layers of al dente pasta filled with earthy mushrooms, rich tomato sauce, and a velvety white sauce, all topped with a generous blanket of melted cheese and served in a ramekin. The flavors and textures blend harmoniously, creating a comforting and satisfying meal.

To end your dining experience on a sweet note, enjoy indulgent desserts that chef Roberta recommends like Tiramisu, as well as a selection of gelato and shakes for those looking to beat the Goan heat. Here’s a pro-tip: the desserts are not mentioned in the menu, so instead of just opting for the gelato that’s on display, ask the staff what’s available for the day. You’ll be surprised to find that you have the option of tarts, gelato in brioche buns, and more.

One of the advantages of this establishment is that they offer an equal number of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, ensuring there is something to suit every palate.

Home-Delivered Pizzas in North Goa

Convenience is also taken into account, as patrons can easily order from Fortune’s Pizzeria and Gelateria through Swiggy or Zomato for free delivery within a 5-kilometer radius of Assagao.

When dining here, you’ll not only indulge in delicious food but also experience the authenticity of flavors that come from traditional recipes handed down through generations. It’s no wonder that this place stands out, as it offers light and homely food, reminiscent of the dishes prepared by Italian nonnas. If you have a moment to spare, I encourage you to chat with Chef Roberta, as she is passionate about Italian cuisine and always eager to share her knowledge.

Fortune’s Pizzeria and Gelateria in Assagao is more than just a place to grab a slice of pizza in Goa or enjoy some gelato; it’s a culinary journey that allows you to savor the true essence of Italy in the vibrant atmosphere of Goa.
